GoThere before you go there   College Area - San Diego, California 92115

What's in a name?
San Diego State University, started out in 1897
as the San Diego Normal School, a training facility for elementary school teachers. The nearby community became known as Normal Heights. By 1935 the school was renamed San Diego State College and relocated here. In the early 70's we saw the college become a university, but the name "College" continued as the name of the community.
Where an aging drive-in movie theatre once stood on along with a rambling lumber yard and run-down shops El Cajon Blvd., a new shopping center was built to serve the College Area community. A badly needed supermarket and many new shops and restaurants went in. Although still struggling to modernize the area, there are still strong ties to the past.
